How to Take Time Off from Work and Feel Refreshed

It is beneficial to take care of your health and wellbeing, regardless of when you work. Yet, if you frequently work on weekends, you may find it tough to do so.

If you’re not careful, weekend shifts can disrupt your entire week. You must prioritize your health and wellbeing, even if you work on weekends. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to take time off from work and feel refreshed. These include:

1. Turn Off Your Work Devices

Separate yourself from your job by deactivating your work laptop or any other business devices. This helps you remove the temptation to log in to these devices outside of typical work hours. Instead, you can focus on what’s most important: taking care of yourself and enjoying your time away from work.

2. Set Aside Time for Yourself

Give yourself ample time to enjoy yourself outside of work. You may have to schedule time to buy groceries, clean your home, and perform other activities. However, you need to commit time to relax and rejuvenate your body and mind. This ensures you can feel and perform your best when you return to work once again.

3. Spend Time with Family Members and Friends

Make plans with family members and friends at different points during the week. For instance, you can schedule a weekly game or trivia night or dinner with family members or friends. This gives you an event or activity you can enjoy with family members and friends week after week.

4. Engage in Activities That Make You Happy

Take time for activities that bring a smile to your face. If you enjoy jogging, set aside time every day to go for a run. Or, if you like yoga, you can join a yoga class in your community. Find activities that you enjoy and try to engage in them as frequently as possible.

Establish and Maintain a Healthy Work-Life Balance

A healthy work-life balance is paramount, particularly for those who work on weekends. If you work too much, you may feel increasingly anxious and stressed. You can also feel worn-out and burnt-out from work. In this instance, it can become virtually impossible to feel your best outside of work.

Ultimately, you must prioritize your work-life balance. If you give yourself sufficient time to recuperate from your work, you can feel your best both when you’re at your job and when you’re away from it. You’ll be able to maintain positive relationships with family members, friends, and coworkers, too.

If you’ve reached a point where you feel like your work-life balance is in jeopardy, let your manager know. Next, you and your manager can explore ways to help you improve your work-life balance.
