Day 4 – A Week Of Giving

Today’s weather is a great reminder about why we chose End 68 Hours of Hunger again this year. Today, while some are playing outside, and coming in for Hot Chocolate and lunch made by Mom or Dad, some are coming back into an empty kitchen wishing school wasn’t canceled. They rely on school meals during the week, and more importantly the weekend when they aren’t in school. Teachers notice the kids that get anxious on Friday afternoons because the children are facing two days without food. On Monday many spend the day with the nurse because they don’t feel well and don’t have the nutrition to focus in class. The good thing is that in many NH communities, End 68 Hours of Hunger and teachers can help get these children a backpack full of meals to have over the weekend. These children have been studied and it has been proven that their behavior and attention span are improved and their reading and math comprehension score has gone up.
